why for Joan?

Joan was my Nan. She grew up at the foot of Mount Elephant, called every man she met “Tiger”, and made everyone feel like family.

Meet Sammy

For Joan is just me — Sammy. When you write to us, it’s me who answers: one person, gently gathering your memories and shaping them into something your family keeps forever.

What I believe

Every life deserves a beautiful record. There’s no rush and no wrong way to remember someone. And it’s the small stories — the nicknames, the broken windows — that bring a person back to life on the page.

When we lost Joan, I did what so many families do: I gathered the photographs and the stories, and tried to hold a whole life in my hands. It was one of the hardest and most healing things I’ve ever done. Somewhere in that process, I realised how many families long to do the same — and how few know where to start. For Joan exists so no family has to do it alone.
